Seachem CupriSorb is a narrow spectrum, synthetic adsorbent based filter material designed for quickly and efficiently removing copper and heavy metals from either freshwater or marine water systems. The formula extracts all types of copper, including chelated copper, and remains in perfect working order until it turns a deep blue-black color. For a greater, longer lasting investment, Seachem CupriSorb may be regenerated repeatedly to be used again. If placed in regular, continual service, it will gradually extract even precipitated copper and make invertebrate (organisms which are extremely sensitive to copper) culture possible in tanks that have been previously treated heavily with copper. CupriSorb is a powerful copper specific chelating resin. Many other products on the market are not technical chelating products, but are instead cation exchange resins that can remove copper from freshwater but are completely ineffective in saltwater.

Directions:

Use 250 mL for every 600 L (150 US gallons) of aquarium water to remove up to 7,500 mg (12 ppm) of copper. Use in filter media bag. For best results, CupriSorb should be placed in such as way to maximize the flow of water that passes through it. To remove undetectable substrate leaching copper, it is recommended to leave CupriSorb in use for at least 2 weeks after copper tests report no copper. The solution can be used effectively in a canister filter, chemical filtration module, box filter, or any high flow area of a trickle filter.

Regeneration:

Soak the material in a non-metal container with 2 cups of water and 1⁄2 cup of muriatic acid (available with pool supplies: PAY HEED TO WARNINGS on acid container!). This process is best done outside in an open space and away from children. Soak for 1 hour and rinse well. Repeat this process as required to restore the original color. Rinse well, add sodium bicarbonate until foaming stops, and rinse again. The CupriSorb is now ready for reuse. If original color cannot be restored after several acid washes, proceed with rinses and bicarbonate step, then regenerate as HyperSorb or Purigen.
